Deadhead Day
Deadhead Day is a globally celebrated holiday in honor of the Grateful Dead, the music they created and the culture of Dead Head fandom. We celebrate Deadhead Day annually on July 9th because that is the anniversary of the Grateful Dead's final concert at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois in 1995. By celebrating each year on this day, it's like the music never stopped!
2023 will be the Inaugural Year for Deadhead Day and is scheduled to be featured in the Rowman & Littlefield publication Chase's Calendar of Events. This is very exciting news because it means that the information about our holiday will be publicized in a highly regarded, widely circulated reference guide used by media outlets, calendar makers and more. But, it's only the first step in spreading the word. In order to make sure that Deadhead Day continues to grow and expand year after year, we need your help!
How can you celebrate on Deadhead Day? Call a Deadhead friend you haven't spoken to in too many years. Reminisce about the good ol' days (and The Good Ol' Grateful Dead). Curate a Grateful Dead playlist and throw a cook-out with your neighbors. You never know, they might be kind! Organize a meet-up at your local watering hole. There are Deadheads all around!
Tell a friend or call your local radio station and tell them to play Grateful Dead music all day on July 9th! It's going to take a gargantuan team effort to make this holiday a reality and we appreciate any contribution you can make to the cause.
